Hi, I’m Laura!

The idea for Seattle Stitchery started in my daughter’s after-school sewing class at the beginning of the 2020 pandemic. She fell in love with fabric arts and convinced me to re-learn how to use the sewing machine after a 20-year hiatus!

We started making masks for family & friends, donating them to neighbors in need and to non-profit organizations throughout Washington State. News spread, and our skills blossomed from there. Initially, my daughter helped me make every mask, but now she works on her own sewing projects instead. She’s still my creative/kid fabric consultant and assistant marketing manager. After almost 2 years, and over 12,000 masks made, I switched gears to start making colorful bags and other useful sewn accessories!

I love bright COLOR as a contrast to the dark and gray Pacific Northwest weather for most of the year – everything you will find in my shop is full of color and fun patterns!

Each item you see is handmade by me in my Seattle, WA home. I source and purchase fabric in small quantities, and much of it is out-of-print (and sometimes one-of-a-kind) so there will be a wide variety of patterns for everyone in my shop! I mostly reclaim smaller or “off-cuts” or ‘deadstock’ fabric that may not be usable in other circumstances. I also try, as much as possible, to purchase materials from small businesses and independent designers. I like to use more eco-conscious fabrics such as cork and waxed canvas for my bags.

Reuse and recycling are very important to me personally, so I have found ways to recycle or reuse about 90% of the waste this business generates.

When I’m not sewing, you can find me planting veggies in the garden, drinking coffee, wrangling my 4 backyard chickens, dog, 2 cats, and house bunny, listening to true crime podcasts or watching true crime documentaries. I’m also a co-leader for my daughter’s Girl Scout Troop. You will probably also see me perusing local fabric stores!
